    New Age Foot & Ankle Surgery

    Asif Shah, DPM, MS, FACFAS, joined New Age Foot & Ankle Surgery in Richmond and Farmville, Virginia, in July 2003 after completing his residency program in primary medicine, plastic surgery, extensive forefoot, rear foot, and ankle surgery at the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa, Florida.

    Dr. Shah earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester, New York, and received his podiatric degree from Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in Miami Shores, Florida. 

    Dr. Shah’s continuing education includes application of external fixation, advanced application of internal and external fixations, ankle and foot arthroscopy, forefoot and rear foot reconstruction, reconstructive plastic surgery of the foot, advanced surgical techniques in ankle and foot trauma, diabetic wound care, and limb salvage. 

    Dr. Shah is a member of numerous renowned organizations, including the American Podiatric Medical Association, the American Diabetes Association, the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, and the Virginia Podiatric Medical Association. He is board certified in foot surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.

    Dr. Shah is an avid scuba diver and is working to become a divemaster. Some of his favorite dives have taken him to the Cayman Islands, Barbados, and Mexico.

    Dr. Preston Carr is a board qualified foot and ankle surgeon offering services at both New Age Foot & Ankle Surgery locations in Farmville and Richmond. He is an Ohio native who received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at the University of Cincinnati, with an American Chemical Society Certified focus. He continued his studies and received a Masters degree in Pharmacology and Cell Biophysics in Cincinnati thereafter. He later obtained his doctorate degree from Kent State University in Cleveland, Ohio in 2021.

    Dr. Carr completed a three-year intensive residency at a level 1 trauma center at Inova hospital in Fairfax Virginia, where he served as chief resident spanning 10+ hospitals and surgical center branches. His training includes complex limb deformity correction, reconstructive forefoot and rear foot lower extremity pathology encompassing diversity in; trauma, pediatrics, flat and high arched feet, arthroscopy, joint replacements and Charcot neuroarthropathy. He is a motivated medical professional who is driven to communicate well, establish strong rapport with patients and colleagues, and provide exceptional medical care and surgical expertise.

    As a published author, Dr. Carr prides himself on giving back to not only the podiatric profession, but the community around him. He is a member of several organizations including the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, American Podiatric Medical Association, and Student TransAtlantic Education in Podiatric Surgery where he continues to lecture, teach and provide educational opportunities to students and residents throughout the US.

    Dr. Carr enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and growing his farm! He is also an avid sports fan, where many weekends are spent attending games or watching with family and friends. He takes pleasure in working out and staying active.
